Several days ago I mentioned in my posting to this group that Trading
Post Services was looking for additional staff members for the upcoming
1997 National Jamboree. It takes over 630 staff members to run the
three trading posts that we operate at the jamboree. We currently have
openings for around 400 youth (16-20) and adult (21 and over) staff
members. Since at least one of the trading posts opens around the time
that most of the other jamboree staff begin to arrive on site, some of
our staff will be needed for almost 3 weeks of duty. The minimum
committment of time will be approx. 2 weeks, again depending on which
trading post that you are assigned to.

A typical work day is approx. 4-6 hours (some more, some less) leaving
plenty of time to see the rest of the jamboree. Some of our staff serve
as cashiers or tellers behind the counters making sales, some work in
the snack bar, some serve as stewards in our dining tents serving meals
to trading post staff members and some serve as night guards. The first
week is the hardest, both setting up the trading post and serving the
demand for souveniers and/or snacks as the rest of the staff and the
scouts arrive. Sales start to slow down as the scouts run out of money
later in the second week. We tear down and pack up the day that the
scouts leave for home and our staff is usually dismissed sometime the
following day.

Like any job at the jamboree it can be hard at times but mostly it's a
great deal of fun! Many of our staff come back jamboree after jamboree
(This will be my 6th Jamboree as a trading post staff member). I think
it's one of the best staff jobs at the jamboree because of all the
activity and the people you see and meet. It's exciting and fast paced.
Your shifts go quickly and you have plenty of free time to experience
the rest of the jamboree. If you are interested in serving as a trading
post staff member at the 1997 national jamboree please send me the
following information. We will contact you about how to apply for a
position on trading post services staff.
