I don't mind identifying myself as the person with whom Leslie was
corresponding. I am not ashamed of my stand, here.
The point that I tried to make, is that the kids (boys and girls both)
will go for the gross stuff if for no other reason than the shock value
of "Nice little Jimmy said _what_?". I would rather teach them one of
these songs at a meeting or camp, than have them learn the words to
something like "Canal Street" or worse, on the street.
A quick read thru the contents of my copy of the "Wood Badge Song Book",
under the catagory "fun", lists "Tom the Toad", "I'm looking over (my Dead
Dog Rover)", and 2 different versions of "Underwear", among many others.
There is an old saying about all work and no play making Jack a dull boy.
Is it _that_ necessary that _everything_ done in a meeting teach the
"proper" things? That we avoid something that is just strictly for fun,
because it doesn't happen to _teach_ something that the kids need to learn?
Using these songs _might_ be a way to help keep the interest level for a
while. And I dare say that _most_ of these were probably sanctioned by the
Founder, himself.
