about a problem with recruiting in schools that he is having.

In the Greater Lowell Council, the Council sets up the school
meeting for a Saturday afternoon at our local High School.
All Pack Leaders are invited to attend and set up a
display showing who they are, what they have done and what
they have to offer. It is kind of like a Cub Scout Trade Show
where all Packs that want to recruit have a booth. No one
gets up in front of the whole group of attendees and speaks
except the council, who tells the people to visit each booth
and then decide where they want to sign their boy up at.
This seems to be a very fair way of doing things and it works.
The Council Executive and Staff act as the moderators and greet
the interested families at the door to the school hall. There
they receive the necessary forms and an information package
on what Cub Scouting is.
The recruitment was advertised on our Cable TV station and in
the city newspaper. Flyers were also sent out by the Lowell
Council to all the local elementary schools in advance.
Cub Scout Packs were not allowed to go into elementary schools
on their own to recruit, only the Council works within the schools.
Last time my Pack displayed photographs of activities and events
we had during the past year. We also brought our Cubmobile Race
Car (Soap Box Derby Car) and put it on display along with our
1st Place Cub Scout Race Car driver and his trophy. Our Cub Scout
Champion Racer enjoyed greeting and talking with all the new
boys and it helped our recruitment. We signed up 25 boys
at this one recruitment alone. Any boys that lived far from our
Pack were referred back to the Council Officers for placement
in a Pack closer to their home.
I hope this helps give you some ideas on a successful, fair, way
to recruit. It works for us, it should work for you.
