When I went to the Training Center in 1992, the night before I arrived
a couple of staffers (practice what you preach!) had kept some brownies
in their tent. When I arrived the next morning, there was the platform
and two cots (without mattresses). And a live trap to catch the skunk
if it came back. My question was (and still is) who's going to pick up
that live trap with the skunk in it?

As others have pointed out, there are bears, raccoons, skunks, mice,
squirrels, all sorts of critters that have learned to look for food
in tents. Some are minor nuisances (such as the raccoon that ripped
the side of my son's tent), others are major nuisances (I'm not sure
if I'd rather meet a bear or a skunk in my tent--actually I'd rather
not meet either one and so far I haven't), and all should not have the
opportunity to find food in your tent.
