dad & lad / mom & me

Kim Moye (kmoye@SPDMAIL.SPD.DSCCC.COM)

okay, i just have to put in my $.02. i'm a single mom. have been for most
of my kids life. they have not seen their father in years. there are
much fewer mom and me times then there are dad and lads.

at first i was upset about this situation, but here is the reality. in my
case, it bothers me *much* more than the kids.

at school there are muffins for mom and doughnuts for dads. my son lobbied
one day to let me come for doughnuts for dads (although i have never even
gone to muffins for mom). he just thought that since i was his mom and
dad i should be allowed to go, if i wanted to.

we have a parent's race for the pinewood derby. after several years, the
people running this adult refer to it this way. i am the only mom that
does participate in this.

again, it bothers me more than my son. he just lets it roll off.

i have one boy in my den who's dad refuses to camp, so its his mom that goes
with us...so he would go to a mom and me.

each family just does what it can. the district/council is getting better
about single families, but still has a lot of work to do. my complaint
again, is that dad and lad is offered almost twice as much as mom and me.
the answer is of more moms go, then they will be forced to offer more.
