In her post, Mary Anderson writes: "in my pack they instruct the den
leaders to sit down
with each boy's parents and mark off as many rank requirements as they
can that they have done sometime in the past."
I would say that in our unit, this would only be acceptable if the
"past" we are talking about is the past months after the scout qualified
to begin earing that badge. For example, my own son has played Little
League baseball, as have many of his den mates, since he was 6 years
old. We would not sign off Elective 20k in the Wolf Book (Play a game
of Baseball or Softball) however, until he played ball during his Wolf
year. IMHO, to do otherwise, we would not have been teaching him the
value of doing the work in his book.
