Sure!! Check out the old Bear and WEBELOS Cub Scout
books...there are simple plans for some great amature weather instruments.
Also check with your local TV stations....some of them have pre-packaged
free "weather watcher kits" that they will be more than happy to provide to
your Den. Hey, one night, they may be using YOUR data as part of their
newscasts!!!

Also check with the regional National Weather Service office...they too have
simple "weather watcher kits" which they provide to farmers, ranchers and
others to assist the local office with properly meausuring the weather.

>Also, do any of you have simple plans for a (crystal or >otherwise) radio
that can be made from parts or know of an >inexpensive kit? My husband saw
a kit advertised last year >for $20 a piece if we ordered 5 or so. However,
that may be >above the means of a couple of my parents and the den dues >are
low right now.

Rather than to try to scan several pages, please send me your snail mail
address, Jan...I'll copy the pages from the older Bear book (or if you can
find a 1971 printing of the 1967 version of the Bear Book in a public
library) and send them to you.

The old Bear book, in Electives 2 and 3 talk about simple weather tools and
a simple radio which can be built by Cubs and their families. The only
problem will be in getting the crystals for the radio, which I'm sure you
can hop down to Radio Shack {tm} or some similar place and get them from
either in finished product or in crystal form period.

I remember trying to build my own radio as an elective but I couldn't find
the crystal needed to run it. But it was a lot of fun to find everything
else and put it together!!

Hope this helps out!
