Waaay back, when I lived at 7,250 (USAFA), we were told that it takes 2-3
weeks to grow the extra red blood cells needed at high altitude, and only
2-3 days to lose them on return to lower altitudes.

BTW, we just yesterday had snow down to 8,000 here in sunny California
