We just finished up our day camp. Theme was "Fun in the Son"...with the
theme being the outdoors. We did all kind of sports such as ultimate, kick
ball, bb guns, archery and had a nature trail to hike. Crafts we made
watchamacalits, buddy burners (scouts cooked their own hot dogs Friday),
first aid tie slides. Had presentations such as a gentleman from a local pet
shop brought out various reptiles, basic first aid, wood carving, whittling
and bicycle safety. Much more than this but you get the idea. Last year out
theme was space. The dens have to make up their own song, cheer and skit to
match the theme. We make den flags and have names such as "space warriors"
or "scorpions", depends on the theme. Friday we have various booths set up
and each cub scout, with their buddy, visits the booths. They can tie knots,
shoot the bb guns, archery, marbles, learn the requirements for bobcat or
WEBELOS, etc. Boy scouts ran around and tagged the cubscouts with sacks of
flour. If a boy is tagged he can't move, has to yell for the medic, who will
come and heal the boy with a swipe of mud. There was also balloon toss and
slip N' slide. The boys had a blast.
My thanks and congratulations on a job well done, as usual, to our Cub Scout
Day Camp director and committee.
