We had a problem with abuse in my old council some years ago. A SM was
branding the boys as a right of passage into the troop. Needless to
say, he is no longer in scouting.
As Mike said, however, everything was taken out on his son. He supposed
to be SPL at a council JLT and by mutual agreement, withdrew from the
course and he and his mom moved to a town outside the council, just so
the boy could finish his Eagle fairly. He had nothing to do with the
situation, but since his father was no longer around to dump on, he
received it all. What a shame! He was a good kid, and one of the best
lodge officers I ever served with.
