As a ASM and Unit Commissioner I have seen many Troops with "Eagle"
patrols. They all seem to work and blend with the troop. This type of
patrol will keep older boys active in the troop and the BSA. After
talking with many of the S. Masters that have older boy patrols, they
have all said that without the "Eagle" patrol the older boy's whould have
dropped out of scouting.
All of the troops with this type of patrol plan extra events together.
The "Eagle" Patrols plan High Adventure Campouts and Backpack about 3
times a year (Summer, Fall and Spring). Many times they will have 30 to
40 Eagle Scouts on a Trip!!
This may not be for everyone. But you need to do what works for the
youth not for the adults. Many times we forget about the youth and think
only about the adults and our likes and dislikes.
It never hurts to try a new idea!
