No, it is NOT required under the current policies. Mike was referring to
the changes that were made in 1969, some of which are no longer policy.
Current policy is that the decision of whether to inform the candidates
immediately belongs to the SM. (And not to the lodge, chapter, elections
team, etc.) That is very clearly spelled out in the current Guide for
Officers and Advisers, although I don't have a copy here at work (keep
forgetting to bring that second copy in) so I can't quote specific page
references.
