Re: Getting Elected to the Order of the Arrow

(no name) ((no email))
Thu, 13 Jun 1996 11:04:58 -0500

Henry Knowles added to my OA education. I don't have access
to the Order of the Arrow Guide for Officers and Advisors, and
do appreciate his corrections to my posting!

>>I find myself in the unusual position of having to correct some

>>Order of the Arrow Guide for Officers and Advisors.

>>WRONG! This is a common mistake, but it is absolutely incorrect.
>>As stated on page 21 of the GOA, ALL registered active members of

>>> Adults may be elected to the Order of the Arrow in the following

>>Technically, the O.A. states that adults are selected, not elected.

>>
>>As set forth by the National Committee of the Order of the Arrow,
>>all adult recommendations are sent to the lodge adult selection
>>committee, composed of the lodge advisor, the chairman of the
>>council committee on which the lodge advisor serves, and the lodge staff
>>advisor. Recommendations of the adult selection committee, with the
>>approval of the Scout Executive, serving as Supreme Chief of the Fire,
>>will be candidates for induction, provided certain conditions are met
>>for the reasons for selection. (see GOA page 21)

>>> Only the camping requirement for adults can be waived, and
>>> a really good reason why it should be waived must be given

>>
>>The camping requirement CANNOT be waived for unit Scouters. It can
>>be waived for district or council level Scouters if there is
>>good reason for the waiver. The waiver is at the discretion of
>>the Lodge Advisor and Scout Executive. (see the GOA page 21)

Thanks for the additional information as well as the change which
makes ALL unit members eligible to vote, not just the ones whom
are NOT Arrowmen.
