My son has just graduated from Webelos up to a new troop. He has been
assigned to a new patrol with a mix of 1st and 2nd year boys, with a 2nd year
patrol leader. All is going very well. Apparently last week at the patrol
leaders meeting it was decided to have a party at this weeks meeting. The
patrol leaders were to call their members and instruct them on what to bring.
Well at the end of this weeks Troop meeting the Scoutmaster announced that
they could all bring and their snacks and let the party begin! Get this
visual image, 24 boys setting around picnic tables, the weather is perfect,
all starring at several bottles of 3 liter drinks, and a bag of Ice. Notice
I didn't say anything about cups or snacks :-). The Scoutmaster used this
opportunity to explain the importance of communications! It was GREAT! As
he explained to them 'what if this had been something important', I couldn't
help but think what could be more important to a bunch of teenage boys than
'FOOD', especially snacks :-). I am sure this is a lesson in communications
they won't soon forget.
