I just read this today, and am repling to the list as well as to Cliff.
I was in a rush to get to work before I could finish the posting the
way I wanted to, and this morning has been the first chance I've got
to followup on the posting:

Cliff Golden asked:
>You quote me as saying "...the old system had some merits though".

I didn't have time to finish what I was going to say about the old system.
No argument with you, your points are very valid.

I was going to say that I agreed with you that the old way that we did
things was fine because our youth leaders worked to insure that Scouts
that did not "meet the standards" never made it to First Class. With
proper adult advisement (which wasn't done, which is why the BSA
abandoned it, to my disappointment!!), this could continue to be a
good additional measure of the Troop's operation and program.

Sorry to leave you hanging like that, Cliff.

I hope that you're having a great time in Florida...do me a favor please
and bring back some sunlight....we've been swamped in rain and
clouds for the past week and a half!

Again, Cliff and I are on complete agreement, and my comment above
should have been explained a lot better than I did before. My apologies
to anyone that thought that I was critizing Cliff's comment, as well to
Cliff personally!
