"Irish" Boy Scout

(no name) ((no email))
Wed, 29 May 1996 08:29:32 -0400

Hi all
I need the collective wisdom of the list. I realize that a thread
about Boy Scouts from other nations joining American Troops or registering as
American Boy Scouts (if not currently a Scout) had been ongoing but I didn't
pay much attention to it (that will teach me - everything on Scouts-l is
important<g>)
A family in my troop will be hosting a boy from Northern Ireland as a
part of the Project Children Program. They wanted to have him go to summer
camp with their son (and I agreed to it) and will register him as a Boy Scout
to cover any liability concerns (I don't know if he was a Boy Scout in Northern
Ireland). I would like to make his summer camp experience extra special so I'm
asking for any ideas, especially from our scouting friends across the pond.
Some questions:
What flag would be appropriate to bring with us to summer camp to honor
this scout?
Any interesting traditions, songs, etc, that might make him feel more
comfortable and at the same time allow our scouts to learn a little about his
heritage?
Any suggestions (from the previous thread) about pledges, flag
saluting, etc?
I look forward to any suggestions - please e-mail direct unless you
feel the list would benefit.
