Another Death of a Scouter

John Pannell (PANNELLJ@DELPHI.COM)
Tue, 14 May 1996 16:52:37 -0500

I was informed yesterday afternoon of the passing of Larry Rhyne after a
several month long illness.

Larry was the Committee Chairman for Troop 39 in Burlington, North Carolina
(Old North State Council) -- my troop before my move last fall. He
completed the practical portion of Boy Scout Woodbadge with me last fall
(SR-92) and "used to be a Bear." (I do not know if any from outside the
troop in the course were informed yet, but I will try to let them know
tonight.) He was an Ordeal member of Tsoiotsi Tsogalii 70, completing his
Ordeal in the Summer of '94. For a while he was a lurker on this list.

He was quite an active outdoorsman and had done much hiking in the Sierra's
before moving to North Carolina.

As you can tell this all happened relatively quickly -- since he was
fine in Woodbadge early last October.

The past Easter he was baptized into the Christian faith. The baptism was
held after services on Easter Sunday and many of the congregation stayed to
witness it and give him support. I was told this morning that his face was
not the only wet one there. I had talked to him only a couple of weeks ago.

In addition to many friends he leaves behind his dad (now in his 80's),
wife, and fifteen year old son (Life Scout).

He is now where he feels no pain or infirmity. I ask you to please remember
his family in your prayers in your own manners and customs.

YiS,
John Pannell
Unit Commissioner, Three Fires Council, IL
I used to be a buffalo... (SR-92, working ticket)
...but I will always be an Eagle (1981)
