Nope.
The _Eagletter_ is produced basically on the "free time" of the staff of the
Eagle Scout Service, with some help from the Editorial Staff of the BSA.
The reason why it has come out so haphazardly is two-fold:
money and content.
The BSA set aside some funding for the NESA, but most of it's
income comes from membership dues, "trinkets" like patches and hats, and
special campaigns conducted by the national staff members (yes, those at the
National Office ALSO have to do a bit of fundrasing on a national scale,
just like your District and Council professionals do on a local scale).
This funding has been slow in coming, because many Councils have stopped
emphasizing the NESA as something that Eagles should be a part of.
Actually, they are more confused due to the BSA's removal of "charters" for
NESA Council chapters
about six years back, but still ask for stats from the Council on
the number of Eagles and number of NESA members that they have cultivated
over the past year. When folks send their dues in, much of their dues goes
into a fund to finance scholarships and grants to deserving Eagles attending
colleges and universities.
The _Eagletter_ has been highly dependent upon content.
Much if not all of the content, as Bill Fox alluded to, is the same stuff
that is sent to your Council each month in their Council Packet for release
within newsletters and bulletins.
Other stuff is duplicated in other BSA publications, notably
_ProSpeak_, _Scouting_, and _Exploring_Journal_. They can use your news
of Eagle Scouts, and you are more than welcome to send it to the Eagle Scout
Service, S220, at the National Office, BSA. Photos are also welcome, as
long as they are in black and white and they cannot guarantee their return.
The National Eagle Scout Association continues to be a source for Eagles
--whether registered presently or not -- to continue to receive information
about their program, to make
a difference in their communities by parrotting what other Eagles have done
and are doing, to stay in touch with fellow Eagles and most importantly to
insure the continuation of the BSA's advancement program through their
volunteer and financial efforts. While we don't have *official* local Chapters
any more, that shouldn't lessen our efforts to insure that each and every
Eagle Scout, active or not, is a member of this special organization.
Hope that answers in part why you --and I-- haven't been getting _Eagletters_!!
