Hi Glenn,
Here's one I like to use on my first class and above boards of review. On a
hike on of the members falls over a cliff that is 30' in height. The patrol
must rescue the fall commrade using only the materials found in their day packs.
Each scouts day pack would include a 6' piece of rope, tarp/blanket/poncho.
The scouts would have to work together as a team to rescue the injuried
scout. What I look for is to have the scouts mark their position on the map
and send back two scouts for help. the rest of the scouts would need to
combine their materials to complete the rescue.
They would all have to join their ropes together to lower some one down to
check out the injured scout. They would then have to either have to provide
shelter and a fire for the injured scout in the base of the hole or if he
was not injured too greatly and their were enough boys available remove him
from the hole and treat him at the top.
They are instructed that it they will have to spend the night out in the
woods before the rescue team will be able to reach them so they will have to
build a overnight shelter for them and the injured party.
You could also include some utensil less cooking with the event by providing
them with some meat eggs oranges and other food stuffs. The scouts could
then prepare the meal with the materials at hand.
