Well, somebody's car fell through the ice bridge yesterday, an annual
rite of spring for Fairbanks, Alaska. Note when I say fall through, it
sank up to it's axels in the ice, and the weight was spread out enough so
a tow truck could come and get it....anyways, I am happy spring is here,
and am looking forward to camping and going on outings this summer.
Anyone have any really neat or facinating trips, perhaps out of the
ordinary planned? My troop doesn't have anything planned
yet...unfortunately:(. I want to convince the high adventure part of my
troop, varsity I think it is, to hike the Chilkoot in Skagway, then float
down the lakes and connect to the Yukon River...maybe even to the Berring
Strait. I have
done the Chilkoot before, not too difficult a trail, but the float bit I
haven't done...any suggestions on planning? I guess what I really want
to know is what is a reasonable distance to float? The trip that would
be the most fascinating is about 1200 miles, but I am thinking that would
take forever....thanx, Rhett
PS: Don't use any of the river ice bridges anymore, the lakes are still
ok around here though to drive on....:) It will take a while for the 16
feet of ice to melt.
