We had no difficulty getting into the school because the PTO sponsored us
and our "Scouting Coordinator" (IR, CPR, or whatever) reported to the PTO
on pack activities and on PTO activities to the pack committee and sometimes
to the whole pack (at monthly meeting).
We always had successful recruiting nights until the DE decided he could do
a better job. He insisted on presenting a "new recruiting program." AFter
his presentation, about half those in attendance did not register. Prior to
that we had almost 100 percent sign up. Next day the principal called me to
ask what had happened since she had gotten several calls from parents about
the new leader! It took us about six months to recover to previous membership
levels.
I have always found that identifying the proper individual to approach is
worth the effort. And personalizing fliers for that location is essential!
