Sorry Buddy and the list,

My mistake. I was incorrect in regards to the height/weight guidelines. As
I recall in 89 and 93 there was concern about the fitness of the
leaders/staffers. From a health/safety stand point as well as the image/PR
angle. I thought I had seen height/weight guidelines back in 93 but have
not been able to locate them in my files. Yesterday I did receive the
Council Jamboree Guide for 1997 and looked in there. Page 6 II. WHO, Unit
Leader Qualifications, Scoutmaster, third point "Be able to serve as a role
model of physical fitness." "First Assistant Scoutmaster (same
qualifications as Scoutmaster"

Also on page 19 VI. Administration, Medical Waivers "A national jamboree
can be an exhausting experiance. Many activities are physically stenuous
and may result in special medical support. Therefore, it is necessary that
the medical staff be aware of participants who have physical conditions that
might require special consideration. Medical conditions requiring waivers
are as follows:" (fourth point of ten) "Marked obesity"

In 93, this point was a concern for my youngest son, our QM, as he was, at
that time, rather short (5'11") for his weight. :') The doctor was
satisfied with his overall health and signed off on his physical form. He
had a great time and no problems. I, on the other hand, have always been
tall and thin. I came down with something on the bus ride out and was tired
and sore the whole time. Got worse during the day and better after a shower
or long rest. Like a dummy, I did not get looked at by the sub-camp medical
center 25 yards away. Lots of gatoraide, rest and showers helped but I
think now that those medics could have cleared it up with some antibotics or
something. Besides, their care is part of the fee!

For 97, I plan on getting into better shape before we leave. I'm four years
older, 20 pounds heavier and only 1/4" taller. ;^)

Again, sorry if my earlier post caused concern or confusion.
