The interplay between the Packs and the Troop for LDS registered units is
slightly different from those that have been discussed here of late.
Each congregation sponsors a Pack and a Troop, and it is assumed by all
that a cub will move from the Webelos Den to the New Scout patrol (called
the patrol for 11 year old scouts) when he turns 11. He'll probably have
been presented his AOL award at the pack meeting that most closely
coincides with his birthday.
As for visiting a troop, he'll probably have participated in a annual
"fathers and sons" campout that is sponsored by the congregation (not
really a scouting event), that will include both cubs, scouts, and those
both older and younger. There is no organized visit to troops that are
not sponsored by the congregation.
As there are about 8500 troops sponsored by the LDS congregations in the
US, other scouters (e.g., at the District level) may need to be aware of
this nuance in the program.
