Just my .02 worth
My troop just had a very sucessful Webelos recuitment, crossing-
over 22 new scouts from 4 different packs! The amazing thing was that
at each of the cross-overs, there was at least 2-3 other troops there
crossing over a like number of boys. As far as I know, the troops in
our area have never considered "ownership " of the packs and enjoy
inviting the webelos from all packs to expierence what their troops
offer. We try to give the future scouts the best experiences possible,
inviting them to our Holiday party, troop COHs and Eagle COHs so they can
see first hand the benefits and fun of Scouting! We also try to have at
least 2 campouts with them, and have a parents meeting with troop
handouts and guidelines so the parents can ask informed questions about
our troop. With so many strong packs and troops in the area, the boys
are the winners!!
On the subject of partol size, we run new scout patrols at about
7-9 boys, with a Troop Guide assigned to each patrol who camps with the
patrol for about 6 months. We also have assigned ASMs who monitor the
patrols . Having just gone from 40 to 65+ scouts, I foresee lots of
challenges ahead.
Continuing to enjoy reading SCOUTS-L!
