Philmont Training Center

I received the information package from the Philmont Training Center for the
conference that I plan to attend there this coming summer. It appears that a
couple of changes have been made since I was last there year before last.
One change is that the checkin time has been changed to Sunday afterenoon
rather than Sunday morning, so the first meal at Philmont is Sunday dinner
rather than Sunday lunch. There does not appear to be any conference
activity on Sunday and the opening campfire is the only official activity
for Sunday.

On Monday morning after breakfast, there is the orientation meeting in the
Assembly Hall and the childern and spouses meet with their group leaders.
The Buffalo bar-b-que and western games have been moved to Tuesday night.

Wednesday afternoon is free time for sightseeing, visits to the museums,
hiking the Urraca Trail, touring Villa Philmonte, Seton Library, or what
have you.

If you are bringing kids with you that will take part in the Mountain Men or
Mountain Women program, you need to have them there by 2:00 pm Sunday ready
to leave on their backpacking treks, they will return the following Saturday
morning after breakfast.

Now for a question, I have in the past spent the night before Philmont
checkin in a motel in Cimarron called Kit Carson Inn, nothing great about it
other than it was cheap and convient. However this time, in the list of
places to stay or things to do in Cimarron, this motel was not listed.
However, there was one new one that I had not seen before and was called the
Travellodge of Cimarron. How for those of you that may live in that area or
have been there recently, is the Travel Lodge a new motel, or is it the old
Kit Carson Inn with a new name?
