In 1964 (?), my unit, Air Explorer Squadron 99 (later Explorer Post 99) had the
privilege of spending
a week at Philmont Scout Ranch, filming an episode of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kin
gdom. We
spent the week with Marlin Perkins, Jim Fowler and the crew from Wild Kingdom.
The story line
included rescuing two trapped baby antelope, counting white-tail deer, spotting
various wildlife
native to the Philmont area moving some beaver from a land-locked pond so the Fo
rest Service
could blow up the blockage and allow the stream to flow again (of course Jim Fow
ler got drenched
while we all watched from the( edge of the stream). WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!!!
