I strongly disagree with that Scoutmaster...Every Webelos leader has the
responsibility to check out several troops, and to encourage the prospective
Scouts to visit more than one troop. The most important thing is for the
boy to end up in a troop that is right for *HIM*. If that means going to
a troop with a friend or relative, all the better. I am more interested in
the welfare of the Scout than in making a particular Scoutmaster's recruiting
easier.
I have eight Webelos right now. Three are going to Troop 70, two to Troop
72, two to Troop 77 and the last is still thinking about it. I am in the
middle of restarting a Troop, and would love to have all eight. If I had
made some sort of "loyalty" pitch, I could probably have gotten almost all
of them to follow me. I chose not to do so. Each boy is aware they are
welcome in Troop 70, now or later. Some are going to be with friends or
relatives, others are unsure about joining a new troop. Some are following
me. In all cases, it is their decision.
