My council, Cascade Pacific Council, Portland, Oregon, sells the tents,
cooking gear, etc. to troops, scouts, and other individuals BEFORE the
jamboree.. we use the gear at the jambo then the purchasers get the gear
shortly after. It is one of the ways the council keeps the cost down.
When I went in 1993, the cost was $1650 or so, for airfare, touring,
buses, hotels, and the jamboree itself. We toured for over a week before
the jamboree, spending almost 3 weeks total back east. Leaders pay half
price. We had the second largest contingent at the jamboree in 1993,
and we're going to be larger in 97. In scouting,
-Bill
