1996 marks several milestones of significance to Scouts in the Utah
National Parks Council. Not only do we celebrate the 100th birthday
of our great state, but also the 75th Anniversary of the organization
of the Utah National Parks Council. In commemoration of these two
landmark events, and to help Scouts and Scouters to better prepare
for the future by exploring our rich heritage, Gillmore, Utah, the
original Territorial/State Capital, will be the scene of the Utah
Centennial Heritage Jamoral on Sept. 26, 27, and 28th.
This has been in the planning stage for the past year and a half. We
expect to have 15 to 20 thousand scouts participate. It turly will
be a Jamboral!!!
It is presented to enrich the knowledge of Scouts as they disocver
Utah's greatest gifts through this special Scouting activity. By
exploring our rich heritage and what our past has given us, we can
gain a preview of what our future can provide.
The scouts will have the opportunity, as they explore the state to
earn the "Utah Heritage Award." The 31 districts will have replicas
of the money used at that time, each district having some distinctive
from their area printed on the back. The boys that collect one from
each of the 31 districts then can receive a special centennial coin.
We are already busy doing pre-registration....that is my job for my
District. We have about half of the 100 troop and packs registered..
