As I am recently RE-trained and updated (as of 95) Ad Altari Dei counselor,
it sounds like you need to get the CURRENT training!! The AAD program
was completely revised with the NEW RED book, and concselors guide.
If you have not been to training on the NEW program you really should
not attempt to run the NEW program. Also, if by any chance the delays
in getting the book, are because they are correcting some of the errors,
it should we worth a short delay. Even if you only have 1 copy of
the scouts book, and 1 counselors guide, you can still plan a meeting
with the parents, scout master and a priest. Cooperation of ALL those
people are neccessary! With out close cooperation, your program will
drag on forever. There are a number of projects which will take "AT
LEAST 1 month" to complete, plus planning for RETREATS and special
prayer services etc. The scout master must REVIEW the progress of
the scout on a regular basis, and NOTE the GROWTH of the scout.
The new program can be started any time in the year. Our first
group in the NEW program, was started in July, and hope to complete
SOON! With the new program, a board of review can be convined locally,
and the knot and scout device/pin presented at the first available
opportunity, after the BOR. In our council, those that WISH to
attend the large BSA/GSUSA joint presentations by the BISHOP<
at the Cathedral, still have that OPTION, but only in the spring
each year. The new program provides for immediate recognition!
I would check with your local diocesan YOUTH department to make sure
that you have the up to date information! They are the proper source
for information on the AAD program, along with the Catholic Committee.
As we should all be aware, there are MANY different religious awards,
and you council office can not really expect to be up to date on
all recent changes in all of them.
