To be honest, I don't think that they're breaking their own rules
on purpose...just that, in particular with Philmont, that they've been doing
this for YEARS, you know, and it takes time for everyone to be on the same
sheet of music again.

That's what I stated. It has to be an OVERNIGHT event, campout or
backcountry trip. And yes, anytime you have female youth members
you have female adult members present.

If you're going to go overnight camping (can't figure out any other camping
other than day camp, I guess) with female youth members, you need female
adult members. And because the BSA says
you have to have two-deep leadership, you have to have two females
in the event that somehow a female gets injured.
The two adults gets you THERE. To keep you there overnight, you
need two more, and there should be two of each gender present.
Again, we get so used to doing things the "old, traditional ways",
that when we have to do it a new way, our brains first say "no,
we didn't have to do this before...why now?"
There's always safety in numbers...and fun too...
