Ed Schmitt asked for the requirements for District Award of Merit.
This is from the form Nomination for the Award of Merit, BSA # 33720, 1994
printing.
1. A nominee must be a registered Scouter.
2. A nominee must have rendered noteworthy service to youth in Scouting,
outside Scouting, or both.
NOTE: The nature and value of "noteworthy service to youth" may consist of a
single plan or decisions that contributed vitally to the lives of large
numbers of youth or it may have been given to a small group over an extended
period of time.
3. Consideration must be given to the nominee's Scouting position and the
corresponding opportunity to render outstanding service beyond the
expectations of that Scouting position.
4. The nominee's attitude toward and cooperation with the district, division,
and/or council is to be taken into consideration.
The application also list some General Information and Procedures for
selecting the Scouters to receive the Award of Merit.
I put my copy machine to work and made sure all corners of our district had
copies of this application (as well as applications for the Silver Beaver and
other district awards). This last year we got eleven nominations for four
awards and we didn't even have to go after people to write up nominations for
people we thought should be considered (i.e. some good people were still not
nominated). Our selection job, was not easy! :-)
The Advancememnt Policies and Procedures Committee Guide also has basicly
the same information. Ed, if you need a copy of the nomination form and
cannot get it from your local concil, I will be happy to mail you one.
