Leaders Fees

Mike,
I appreciate the intent behind the weekly dues, and what it teaches
the boys. We are 6 year old Pack and the first two years we used the
weekly dues method and we found that it handicapped us. The den
leaders didn't have enough money to buy some of the basic supplies
they needed to do den projects, so they'd spend their own money but
it would take a couple of months before they were reimbursed. We
as a committee spent an inordinate amount of time collecting on back
dues, cajoling little Jimmy to remember to bring his last three months
dues, or threatening to not give out awards until back dues were paid.
All of this taking away from a fun atmosphere for the boys and the den
leaders.
Then we switched to the yearly method, suddenly the Pack Treasury
had money to pay the den leaders promptly for their supplies, thus the
leader had confidence to do the things they wanted to do, the boys
started having more fun bringing more boys and then the fundraisers
started to kick in money, because everyone was participating instead
of being afraid to show up because they were behind in their dues.
We now provide a high quality program, funded by yearly dues and
100% participation in fundraising. This includes campfires, fully
catered B&G w/ entertainment, Pack trips to Detroit Tiger games and
water parks, day camp and 4 day-3 night campouts (council
sponsored & run event) which all Scouts fees are fully paid by the
Pack. Leader fees and training fees + Pow Wows are fully paid by
the Pack. I don't think we could be providing the program we have if it
weren't for the yearly fees.
