There was an informal JOTI (Jamboree on the Internet) or JOTNet as it was
being called at the same time at JOTA last October. My son and I got
slightly involved with it. If I'd been more aware of it earlier I might
have got my troop involved. Basically, what happened was some groups or
individuals got onto some of the Scouting mailing lists and posted requests
for contacts. We exchanged messages mostly with a Canadian Venturer
company, but they were exchanging messages with Scouts around the world. I
think there may have been an IRC chat on #scouting, but I haven't got into
that yet. I suspect the Internet version will grow as you have much more
reliable contact. Our troop participated in JOTA but only managed to make a
few intelligible contacts in the US, none elsewhere. I plan on getting my
troop involved in both JOTA and JOTI next year.
