Religious content in Boys' Life

I received the message below today, and I have to agree with his
observation. I suggested that he write to the Relationships Division
at BSA National, but thought there might be some valuable thoughts on
the issue here on Scouts-L. With his permission, I am reposting his
letter here.

You may respond to Ashwin personally at antilles23@aol.com, or I
will forward to him any posts to the list.

Subject: Boy's Life Magazine

Mr. Houser,

My name is Ashwin Gokhale, with Troop #476 of Sunnyvale, CA. Although
I am not Jewish, I felt that my thoughts might interest you.

Today, I received the latest issue of Boy's Life. As I flipped through
it, I noticed the "Bible Stories" section, which got me thinking: Why
are there only stories from the Bible in Boy's Life? I fully support
religion as a part of Scouting, but that involvement is obviously not
limited to one religion in reality; why is this not reflected in the
magazine? I feel that stories from Jewish religious texts, as well as
Hindu, Buddhist, Islamic, etc. also have a place here. Stories from all
types of religions would serve to educate better than just one. If you
agree with me, and as you are more influential than I am, I thought that
a letter from you to Boy's Life would be more likely to get a response
than a letter from me (In the past, I have received a form letter
thanking me for my correspondance). Let me know what you think.

Sincerely,

Ashwin Gokhale
