In response to Norman's concern about the requirements for the Wilderness
Survival Merit Badge. It is important to remember that all Merit Badges
and designed to introduce the Scouts to areas and topics which they might
find interesting and then decide to pursue in a more involved manner. It
is up to the counselor to remind the boys that earning any merit badge
does not make them an expert. It is only an intro. Example: Drafting
Merit Badge. I teach high school Drafting. There is no way earning the
drafting Merit Badge would even begin to touch the break the surface of
the field of Drafting. There is nothing wrong if a Scout expresses
interest to take that Scout beyond the requirements once he has earned
the merit badge.
