To build on Lynn's idea about comparison shopping, you could give
them an assignment to window shop for 4-5 specific things that you
know to be available at the mall, each in more than one store. Vary
the nature of the items so they have to hit several stores - it's a
kind of scavenger hunt.
The GS or group - make them work as teams so they have to stick with
someone - that brings back the total lowest cost for all the items
added together wins.
