Ive been using AOL "flashsessions" to get my mail. I haven't been having any
problems, although it is a real pain in the posterior the way AOL handles
long e-mail (such as SCOUTS-L Digest). Anything over 2 Kb they put in a
separate downloadable file, which can only be read in a text editor. If
you're getting the e-mail through a flashsession, you have to either set the
flash to stay on line after finishing getting the mail, check the mail, mark
the file for download and then tell it to proceed with the download ( I found
the quickest way seems to be to start another flash session while running),
or to go offline, read the mail, mark the download, and then start another
download session. I do the flash session to get my mail, but they block me
from getting it in a single short sessions, and then make me use my word
processor to read it - what's the point of their proprietary software if I
can't use it for my main mail? This also makes it harder to reply - you
have to clip it with the editor, switch to AOL, start up the compose mail, do
your thing and then go back to the WP. And it takes too darn long to get the
mail one post at a time (i.e. not digested).

HOWEVER, my kids use alot of AOL's online research stuff, and our total cost
monthly for AOL has been less than having AOL + a direct net server. So for
now I stick with AOL.. But when my time goes up I'll be looking to switch.
