ADD Resources on Scouting WWW Page Set

Having noticed through the ADD discussion on Scouts-L that there is
quite a lot that many of us do not know about AD, ADHD, and related
challenges, I have put another page on my WWW Scouting page set.

This one deals with ADD, ADHD, and a few other "invisible" challenges
some of our Scouts face.

Use the URL below to get to the home page, then click on the link to The
Serious Side of Scouting. The link to the ADD page is there, and it will
lead you to a wealth of resources to help you in dealing with ADD
children in your Scout Group or family.

In my own opinion, working with an ADD Scout MUST be a team effort
between the junior Leaders, the adult Leaders, the Scout, his or her
family, and the Scout's school and - perhaps - any health care providers
working with him or her. If you use a team approach, you will help the
child or young adult thus challenged to reach maximum potential in
learning Scouting's skills and other adventure challenges, as well as
developing his or her leadership talents.

ADD is agonisingly frustrating for anyone who has to grow up or live as
an adult with it as part of everyday life. Each of us can - and should -
extend ourselves a little bit to learn how to help.

We are talking about some very highly intelligent young people in many
cases, and we can learn to help each and every one in a manner that is
far more comfortable for all concerned than you might believe. The
potential is nearly always there - what we need to do is to find the
keys for each one of these young people and learn how to use that key
effectively.
