Be sure and take them to the summit of Pikes Peak (over 14,000 feet),
either by car, cog railway or shoe leather express. Be warned,
though--the hike is a toughie; 10 or so hours and all at extreme
altitudes starting at about 9,000 feet, as I recall. The climb may
well be beyond the capacity of some of your younger boys, but it would
be a good Venture outing. You can drive to the summit in about an
hour, or take the cog railway. There's a souvenier shop and
restaurant on the summit.
Also, don't forget the Air Force Academy.
Have fun; I love the Colorado mountains, and have climbed 19 of the
fourteeners, including Pikes Peak (as you may have gathered).
