Thanks for your post. I see from my mail that you already got a reply
to your query so I won't repeat. This is all discussed in detail in
the Scoutmaster's Handbook. I have a copy. If you'd like me to xerox
the discussion for you, I'd be happy to do so. Send me your snail
mail address and I'll get it right off to you.
The methods of scouting (advancement and outdoors in particular) are
often confused with the "aims" of scouting, which are threefold:
character development, personal fitness (both physical and mental),
and citizenship training. Some units also think they can pick and
choose which methods they can use. WRONG! All eight are important,
and in a well-run troop all are present.
