What to do with an former SPL

We are a new troop. But for those who are unfamilar with us, let me
repeat my major objective is to ensure this is a BOY RUN TROOP.
The boys elected their SPL, he chose his Asst., they elected a PL, he
selected his Asst.
It has been suggested that because they are all new scouts or
tenderfoots, that we hold elections at 6 months rather than a year.
My query is... can the current SPL and PL be reelected?
If they are not reelected, do they become part of the 1 patrol we have?
Remember there is little age or rank or experience difference here.
