Reminds me of the time I was directing summer camp. I made a strong point
that staff were to be in full uniform at all times--modifications allowed for
activity specific needs. One of the staff ordered a case of official Boy
Scout handkerchiefs and distributed one to each staff member (except me). The
next time we were all together, they pulled them out in unison and had one
big official nose blow. I was formally presented with my handkerchief. All
summer the staff carried and used official handkerchiefs. We put what was
left of the case in the trading post and sold them to scouts. Sold out the
first two days of the summer. We went through several cases that summer
because scouts imitated staff. Leaders commented that it was nice to see the
scouts use handkerchiefs instead of shirt sleeves!
PS: I don't always wear scout socks under my long pants but I do ALWAYS wear
them with shorts! --jim sleezer
