I sent this privately, but then this request appeared, so...

I had VERY good luck writing authors care/of their publisher. So, Tom
Clancy would be reachable as Tom Clancy, c/o <his publisher>,
<publisher's address>. You get the publisher's address out of the book,
or call either the book store or a library. They are mostly NYC addresses.

Spielberg ... Amblin Entertainment, 100 Universal Plaza, Bungalow 477,
Universal City CA 91608. His first name is spelt STEVEN. The request
was dated 26 Apr and his reply is dated 27 May, so the turn around isn't
bad. HOWEVER: the letter is signed by the PR director, not Spielberg.
