CAMP THUNDER
FLINT RIVER COUNCIL, B.S.A.

Come to a unique summer camp staff experience at Camp Thunder B.S.A., a part
of the 2300 acre Thunder Scout Reservation in the Pine Mountain range of
Central Georgia. Camp Thunder, operated by the Flint River Council
(Headquarters City: Griffin GA) is nothing short of a national sensation.
You have seen our ads in Scouting magazine.

Already our 1996 guide is out and our nine week camp is already 88% booked
for next summer. More than 65% of our troops come from out of council. We
are the closest camp to the 1996 Summer Olympics Centenial in Atlanta and
expect troops from a dozen states to be with us next summer. On the other
side of the mountain, our High Adventure Canoe Base facility on the Flint
River has already fielded inquiries from troops from several other nations.

Camp staff at Thunder is quite a bit different than other camps. Our staff
is housed in air conditioned modern cabins. Our camp has a huge new 1.6
million dollar dining hall and even though we are into our 55th year of scout
camping our Wellness Center (Health Lodge), Camp Office, and other facilities
have all undergone major renovations in the last five years.

Our Camp is unique in other ways.... we have programs no other camp has like
our new FDR American Heritage Program which allows scouts to visit Warm
Springs Georgia site of President Franklin Roosevelts Little White House
where scouts work on Disability Awareness Merit Badge and American Heritage
Merit Badge. We have the "God Squad" our innovative Chaplain Aid training
program, we host the Check it Out Mate Chess Tournaments as just one of more
than two dozen evening activities that you won't find at other scout camps.
We also are launching a new Trail to Eagle Program focusing on Eagle
required Merit Badges.

Our Virtual Country Store is no ordinary summer camp Trading Post to get
sodas & chips. Every week we ship out unique scouting items to scouters all
over the planet from our internet store. With over 800 book titles, a five
thousand dollar inventory in collectables, and dozens of scouting items you
won't find in the National Supply Division Catalog our Trading Post staff is
a very exciting place at Camp Thunder.

We don't have a "Handicraft" Department....We have a Department of Fine Arts
& Technology where nine badges are taught in an exciting and innovative
manner. Our staff trains for months before camp from experts in their
fields. Our directors are nearly all BSA Camp School Trained.

We eagerly seek out STAFF APPLICATIONS from across the United States. Last
year we had some staff members come to Georgia from as far away as Montana.
Half of our Directors were also from out of council, all veterans with great
records at their home camps.

While several key staff positiions are already filled, we have a need for
many positions. To get an application write to us at:

Areas we are especailly looking for on STAFF:

FIRST YEAR CAMPER (Buckskin Program) - Staff here will work in our new scout
program and focus on Tenderfoot - First Class Requirements.

NATURE / ECOLOGY - Our nature staff will not only be led by a camp school
trained director but all Nature / Ecology staff will be cross trained in
Project Learning Tree & Project Wild. They will oversee 10 Merit Badges and
work with dozens of outside guests and exhibitions that will be coming into
our camp throughout the summer.

We also need Lifeguards, Shooting Sports Staff, Staff for our two Trading
Posts, and scouts who are really into crafts for our hugely popular
Department of Fine Arts & Technology staff.

On our High Adventure side we need staff for our Mountain Biking, Kayaking,
Rappelling, and Spelunking Programs.
