Hey Scouters....

Hi Fellow Scouters!
I wanted to express some quarterly personal greetings to all of those
that have recently found us here at Scouts-L! I've enjoyed reading your
intro paragraphs, screens and "mini-novels" (kinda makes me understand
what some others have to go through to read a Mike Walton posting, huh?)
*grinning*.
At the same time, I want to encourage those that are "just lurking" and
reading our postings to come out, come out and join us around the virtual
fire by participating with us here when you can.
I hope that you will find what Scouts-L has been known for over the
years; a place where the new person and the experienced can sit down
around an electronic "fire", share successes and failures, things that
we should have done and things that we didn't know that we can do...
in short, the good and bad of being a youth leader with each other.
I hope that you read the WELCOME letter that Jon Eidson, our
listowner, sent you about the list and how it works. If you didn't,
send a one-line request to the LISTSERVER (listserv@tcubvm.is.tcu.edu)
with the words GET WELCOME SCOUTS-L and please read it. It will
address many of the typical questions we get here from time to time.
We don't have a "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQ) for our band, mainly
because of the time it would really take to keep it current and to reflect
all of the youth agencies and groups reading and/or posting here at
Scouts-L. However, Professor Beaver (Mike Bowman) and MacScouter (the
entire Hendra family, led by Gary Hendra) do post from time to time
pointers to various World Wide Web (WWW) sites and File Transfer Protocol
(FTP) sites of interest to youth leaders. Also from time to time, there
are other Scouters that post instructions on how to access other lists and
resource sources through the Internet here in our forum.
While I cannot speak for our listowner, I can say that we WANT folks
to GET AS MUCH ACCESS TO INFORMATION as they can legitimately get.
That's why from time to time, we will be posting information on
various other forums and how you can gain access to them. We want you
to learn, share and ask questions here and elsewhere if you choose to
do so. There is no "better list".
(Okay. We here at Scouts-l KNOW that we're more friendly, more open
and more personable than the other lists; but those other lists ARE
meeting needs or else they would not have been created!)
Again, welcome to Scouts-L again, folks. We hope that together that
no matter where you are, no matter what program you belong to and no
matter what level or experience you have in your program, that you
have found a place where you can get some information, some advice and
most important, where you have found some friends at.
I have been able to do all of that and more over the past five years.
And the friendship part is by far the best part of being here. Keep
those questions coming to the list...while I LOVE to answer them
personally, and accept challenges gracefully, there are about 599 or so
others here that can offer some great answers to your questions or
comments...and there are times in which *their* answers are a LOT better
than those offered by Mike Walton!!
Don't forget to share this information with those that cannot get
online...this includes your fellow adult and youth leaders and those
in your agency. A lot of times, the things we discuss here are the
"cutting edge" of what are pressing issues in your locality or
community. By sharing with those that cannot be online, you have
four-timed increased the effectiveness of this list....AND you have
helped us to "get the word out" to those that would love to join us
here but don't know how to get here.
