see if there are any lumber/fencing/pole yards in your area- it would
be worth going to one even if it meant a bit of a drive
we have one in town and they have a large pile of "reject" poles
which they will donate to BSA (I provide a letter of appreciation listing
the poles, which the supplier can then submit as a tax deduction if they
desire - also a gift of honey from our bees as thanks sweetens it for future
requests)
these poles may be a bit rough/cracked/ or curved - but are great for our
towers/bridges/catapults
