Gerry,
If you're planning winter campouts you should be sure all participants have
the proper gear. This should include cold weather sleeping bags rated for
the temperatures you expect to encounter. Body heat loss is greatest through
the ground, so your sleeping pad should be an insulating type not a regular
air mattress or thick blanket. You should always use a waterproof ground
cloth under all in order to keep your equipment dry and not lose insulating
value.
Change clothes for sleeping as others have said. A jogging suit or sweatsuit
works well. And wear a hat - don't breathe into your sleeping bag at night;
the moisture will be absorbed by your clothing and sleeping bag.
With the proper equipment and sleepwear, you should stay warm. YiS,
