It also is the responsibility of the District to find and develop new and
interesting ways to recognize individuals and units at those banquets. We
developed a top unit award that starts at Quality Unit and gets tougher to
get more awards out to units. And there are many different awards that can be
developed for individuals from a "spark plug award" to more specific things.
Also every SM should be trying to earn the SM Award of Merit for getting half
way to his Scouters Key. Theres a lot and you can make up more.
I must stress however, that any special individual or unit awards the
district develops should be run past the Council Advancement Committee - some
will demand the right to approve it first, others will say "its a district
award, as long as the district approves we're happy".
If anyone wants the Top Unit award we laid out, send your snail mail address
and I'll be happy to forward both that I've developed. Just make your subject
line "TOP UNIT" so I spot it amongst the arrow-l and scout-l mailings.
