(Re)Introduction
Didn't do this the first time around, so it's about time
now.

I'm Jay M. Thal, an Assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 666,
Banneker District, National Capitol Area Council.

I've worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development, in various capacities, since 1967. I can be
reached at: jay_m._thal@hud.gov

I can't exactly remember when I became a (Cub) Scout --
probably sometime around 1948. That was in Brooklyn, NY. I
made it through First Class around 1951-2, and went to Ten
Mile River with Troop 39.

We moved to Hollywood, FL in 1952. I joined Troop 119 and I
was awarded my Eagle in 1955, and Explorer Silver Award in
1956. I joined Alpha Phi Omega at the University of Florida
in 1955.

Then began a long hiatus until my youngest son chose to join
Scouting. He joined at 15 and is now approaching 22 and is
working towards his Eagle still. Confused by the age? Well
he is learning disabled and BSA waives the age requirements.
Scouting has be the greatest growth experience, opportunity
for friendship, and innumerable other superlatives in his
life.

So if I sound off on Scouts-L, it will probably be on issues
of access for those with disabilities, and the absolute need
for all Scouters to be sensitized to persons with needs, and
appreciate the amout that more abled Scouts can also learn
from the association. I will espouse alternative ways to
encourage achievement, and I hope that many of you will join
with me and we can develop this into a forum for outreach.

Looking to hear from you.
